Disciples have a responsibility to shine God’s light into the world around them. (Matthew 5:15-16) This takes place in simple ways like smiles, greetings, being willing to stop and pray for people, and sometimes just lending a caring ear. It’s so important that we cultivate the fruit of the Holy Spirit (love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, gentleness, faithfulness, self-control) (Gal. 5:22-23) in our lives. God’s light rests on these.

We may not understand the true power of the light of God’s Kingdom as it flows through us in this dark world.  Nevertheless, we need to die to our own comfort seeking agendas and entertainment driven lifestyles and look for opportunities to shine God’s light in our daily routines and volunteer/outreach opportunities in our communities.

Get out and be God’s light in a very dark world.
